WELCOME!

Welcome to the Advanced Power ElectroniCS (APECS) Group! APECS is directed by Dr. Xiaonan Lu, Assistant Professor of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, College of Engineering, Temple University, and empowered by our students, postdocs, and all our lab supporters. At the APECS, we perform research in advanced power electronics technologies, emphasizing their applications in power grids and a variety of energy systems. We embrace a multi-disciplinary and cross-domain research portfolio, synergizing the areas of power electronics, power systems, and advanced control.

APECS–Inverter: we apply advanced modeling and control approaches to improve the operating performance and the design of power electronic inverters with a broad focus ranging from individual inverters to large-scale interaction of inverter clusters. APECS–System: we deploy advanced inverter technologies towards power grid modernization to enable versatile services and functionalities for stable, resilient, and reliable grid operation. APECS–Control: we leverage field-applicable control approaches to facilitate the deployment of advanced power electronics in various applications, and perform research in promoting AI-aided solutions in grid-interactive power electronics.

– 11/2020: (Outreach) APECS co-hosts the invited lecture on ‘Bi-directional Wireless Power Transfer Technologies for V2G-H2V Applications’ given by Prof. Udaya K. Madawala, in conjunction with the local industry-academia co-organized power electronics consortium PPPEAC.

– 11/2020: (Grants) Dr. Lu receives three grants from Solar Energy Technologies Office (SETO), U.S. Department of Energy, in collaboration with National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), North Carolina State University (NCSU), and Clemson University, respectively. APECS will focus on grid-forming inverter control of hybrid power plants with solar + energy storage, data-driven behind-the-meter modeling, and solar inverter reliability modeling in these three projects.
