An Arts-Based Economic Development Plan for the Borough<\/a>&#8220;. Students in the 2017 studio researched best practices in creative placemaking, detailed existing conditions, and interviewed dozens of stakeholders. Students in the second year, 2018, completed the interviews, held focus groups, and authored the final plan document.\u00a0This plan leverages Lansdowne\u2019s existing cultural and creative assets, highlights creative placemaking strategies and best practices found to be successful in similar communities, and provides guiding principles for future planning efforts in arts-based development.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-187\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/doshna\/files\/2018\/10\/Cover_BCGP-300x232.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"232\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/doshna\/files\/2018\/10\/Cover_BCGP-300x232.png 300w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/doshna\/files\/2018\/10\/Cover_BCGP-768x593.png 768w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/doshna\/files\/2018\/10\/Cover_BCGP-1024x791.png 1024w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/doshna\/files\/2018\/10\/Cover_BCGP-619x478.png 619w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Philadelphia is known as a bicycle-friendly city, but anecdotal evidence suggested that its bicycle parking infrastructure was inadequate. Working with the <a href=\"https:\/\/bicyclecoalition.org\/\">Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia<\/a>, students authored, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/17rwMqMl7q67A7XmIrVATvj1oPjS0uh5R\/view?usp=sharing\">Chasing Space: A Bicycle Parking Plan<\/a>&#8220;.\u00a0The goal of this project is to understand where\u00a0 and how investments into bicycle parking should be prioritized within Center City, Philadelphia. The project is comprised of four primary phases: A policy-based assessment of bicycle parking in Philadelphia and elsewhere; A spatial analysis of bicycle parking in Philadelphia based on an inventory of existing infrastructure and utilization alongside a forecast demand model; A practical analysis based on a survey of bicyclists on their bicycle parking habits in Center City; and A series of recommendations informed by<br \/>\nthe findings of the preceding analyses.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-189\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/doshna\/files\/2018\/10\/Cover_OEM-232x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/doshna\/files\/2018\/10\/Cover_OEM-232x300.png 232w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/doshna\/files\/2018\/10\/Cover_OEM-768x994.png 768w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/doshna\/files\/2018\/10\/Cover_OEM-791x1024.png 791w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/doshna\/files\/2018\/10\/Cover_OEM-619x801.png 619w, https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/doshna\/files\/2018\/10\/Cover_OEM.png 901w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/>On October 11, 2017, t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.phila.gov\/departments\/oem\/\">he Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management<\/a> (OEM) opened the Disaster Assistance Service Center (DASC) in response to the arrival of Puerto Ricans displaced by the effects of Hurricane Maria. The center connected 2,003 individuals from Puerto Rico with the Federal Emergency Management Administration(FEMA), Pennsylvania Emergency Management Administration (PEMA), the Small Business Administration (SBA), and a variety of health and human services through the close of business on December 22nd, 2017. Knowing that such self-evacuations of storm survivors will likely happen again, OEM asked Temple University to conduct an assessment of their response, and to make recommendations as to best practices they should adopt moving forward.\u00a0 The report, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1UIIEB6gw2ACyi-UbfHkUmb7RLdN5bAh0\/view?usp=sharing\">Reaching Across Boundaries: Responding to Non-local Disasters<\/a>&#8221; made several key recommendations for future operations by OEM: (a) acquisition of Host-State Status; (b) development of\u00a0 a temporary housing placement strategy; (c) formalization of staffing plans for future\u00a0 DASC activations; and (d) developing a potential DASC location inventory<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>2017 and 2018 Graduate Planning Studios Three exceptional projects engaged our studio students in Spring 2017 and Spring 2018.
