

{"id":160,"date":"2015-10-28T14:52:12","date_gmt":"2015-10-28T18:52:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/daniellescherer\/?page_id=160"},"modified":"2019-04-29T16:15:02","modified_gmt":"2019-04-29T20:15:02","slug":"global-studies","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/daniellescherer\/global-studies\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Studies"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Advising and Course Offerings<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Global Studies curriculum offers a foundation through a set of four introductory courses, as well as specialization in one of three concentrations: Global Security, Global Economy, and Global Cultures.\u00a0 The introductory courses will prepare you for the concentrations by studying alternative disciplinary and problem-based approaches to global studies.\u00a0 Within this general framework, the three concentrations allow the students to identify a specialized program of study drawing from a structured set of concentration-specific requirements and electives, culminating in a research-based and writing-intensive capstone seminar. For details on the curriculum, refer to the <a href=\"http:\/\/bulletin.temple.edu\/undergraduate\/liberal-arts\/global-studies\/ba-global-studies\/#requirementstext\">university bulletin<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that not all classes available to global studies majors and minors are listed in the bulletin. \u00a0Additional elective classes are offered each semester; only those that are offered on a regular basis are listed in the bulletin.\u00a0 Through our program listserv and my Canvas advising page, I provide lists of the additional courses in advance of the term as well as pre-approved electives for each of the Temple study abroad campuses. You can access my calendar and schedule an appointment directly through my Canvas advising page.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Internship Opportunities<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>We encourage students to complete an internship as one of their elective credits. \u00a0In order to get credit for the internship, students must complete an internship <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/daniellescherer\/files\/2015\/10\/Global-Studies-Internship-Contract.pdf\">contract<\/a> and a CLA <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/daniellescherer\/files\/2015\/10\/CLA-Internship-and-Experiential-Learning-Waiver-Reviewed-20150826.pdf\">waiver<\/a> to enroll in the Global Studies Internship course.<\/p>\n<p>While we do not pair students with internship sites, I maintain a list of internships in the Philadelphia area, in the greater United States, and abroad &#8211; to get access to this list contact me or join our Canvas page to see additional resources.
