The course Film and Literature<\/em> provided a unique cornerstone for my filmmaking skills. By analyzing the adaptation process from source material to film, I gained a deep understanding of the narrative tools and challenges inherent in storytelling across media. I learned the skill of fidelity \u2013 analyzing to what extent details of settings and plot, complexity of characters, themes and ideas, and historical or cultural contexts are accurately retained or recreated in adaptations. This knowledge was directly applied to my micro-film project, where I thrived in the triple roles of director, screenwriter, and actress. This collaborative project involved creating a 5-to-7-minute film titled The Enchanted Scarf: A Tale of Illusions and Disillusionment<\/em>, a reimagining of Katherine Mansfield’s classic short story Miss Brill<\/em>. This experience of making a film can benefit me in MediaXarts in the future by equipping me with practical skills in adaptation, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to effectively collaborate and multitask in various <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

I was a videographer and an actress in this project. In the Film Competition, our team created a film titled Tool Story<\/em> to promote Corporate Social Responsibility. The film centers around Oman, a selfish boss, who embodies the tools. He prioritizes profit by building a massive amusement park despite employees’ warnings regarding a potential disaster of mudslide. We play on the \u201ctool\u201d metaphor by showcasing how Oman disregards his workforce’s concerns. The inevitable mudslide, triggered by a typhoon, brings a personal tragedy to Oman, making him understand the true cost of neglecting social responsibility. This turning point leads him to rebuild an eco-friendly park, demonstrating success that prioritizes not only profit but also ethical practices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through this project, I gained valuable experience from both perspectives \u2014 behind and in front of the camera. As a videographer, I honed my technical skills in capturing captivating visuals that effectively tell the story. Playing the role of the client allowed me to develop my understanding of character portrayal and its impact on the narrative. These unified capabilites will be paramount in my MediaXarts studies. By understanding the technical aspects of videography alongside the artistic elements of acting, I will be well-equipped to contribute meaningfully to future film projects, whether behind the camera or in front of it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
