The Continuing Education and Program Development Unit (CEPD) at Temple University was established in 2024 as the university’s entrepreneurial-focused hub for professional development, continuing education, instructional design, and program development in healthcare, social work, public policy, and nonprofit and public sectors. The unit was created as part of a strategic reorganization at University College to support Temple University’s mission and to build on the successful work already taking place within University College. This unit brings together the decades of excellence from three previously separate but collaborative departments within University College: Temple University Harrisburg Campus, the Noncredit and Continuing Education office, and the Office of Digital Education. Together, this team has over 60 years of experience in developing and delivering training, certification programs, educational initiatives, technical assistance, research and evaluation services, and conference planning. With locations in Harrisburg, Ambler, and Philadelphia, CEPD’s broad presence across the state supports Temple’s dedication to boundless educational access, social justice, innovative research, and community service, all through collaboration and engagement with government officials and the public.
This new unit will focus on expanding current course offerings, developing new educational courses and products, identifying opportunities to collaborate with faculty and staff across different academic units within the university, and improving our capacity for strategic investments that support the communities we serve. CEPD supports this effort by addressing the needs of university, corporate, nonprofit, and government agencies through innovative instructional design, academic courses, professional training, research, and program evaluation. Temple University’s Network of Evaluation Services and Training (NEST), Institute on Adolescent Sexual Health, Institute on Protective Services, Real Estate Institute, Owls in Government, Off-Campus & Corporate Programs and Training (OCPT) program, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), Act 48 Program for Educators, and the Medication Administrative Training Program are all part of CEPD.
