The College of Engineering at Temple University has initiated an interdisciplinary Engineering Program leading to the Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE) (BS Engineering Program) which integrates the tenets of the discipline engineering programs in Civil and Environmental, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and cross-disciplinary studies in the natural and applied sciences to provide a professional career in this burgeoningBSE2 area.

Students interested in Disciplinary Engineering Programs in Civil and Environmental (BSCE), Electrical and Computer Engineering (BSEE), Mechanical Engineering (BSME) and Bioengineering (BEE) should review those programs of the College.

The Engineering Program (BSE) was approved by the Board of Trustees of Temple University in 2012. The BSE program was reviewed in October 2017 by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET and has been awarded a full-term accreditation with the next review in the 2023-2024 academic year.

The BS Engineering Program provides Academic Concentrations in the areas of:

     Electromechanical Engineering (BSE-EME)
     Energy and Power Engineering (BSE-EPE)

The BSE Engineering Program also has Study Plans with more flexibility in the areas of:E

The BS Engineering Program provides a foundation in the basic sciences and mathematics and augments that with focused plans of study that may include electromagnetics, electronics, power, energy, digital processing, mechanics, embedded hardware and software and business, economics and management. Professional employment includes the analysis, iedesign and development systems for diverse industries and applications. The BSE degree can also serve as a basis for possible further study in business, law, medicine or a graduate Engineering discipline leading to a Master of Science in Engineering (MSE) or Professional Engineering (PE) licensure.

The BS Engineering Program includes requisite and approved technical electives, which provides flexibility in the course of study as preparation for your professional employment and graduate study. The BSE Program can utilize the Engineering Co-Op and Internship opportunities to enhance your undergraduate education.

Goals, Objectives and Design Integration

The interdisciplinary BS Engineering Program at Temple University provides an excellent educational experience for its students. This experience includes an emphasis on the technical, communication, teamwork and life-long learning skills that graduate engineers need to succeed, in both the workplace and society in general. The interdisciplinary BS Engineering Program is structured to prepare the graduate for the practice of engineering and graduate school or professional programs in business, lengineer2020aw and medicine. The curriculum emphasizes a rigorous treatment of the mathematical and scientific approach to the solution of engineering problems. The program has design across the curriculum and is capped with an integrated design experience in the form of a senior project.

The BS Engineering Program Educational Objectives are as follows:

Graduates will be employed in industries, academia and state or federal government agencies.

Graduates will advance their professional standing through graduate and/or professional degrees or lifelong learning.

Graduates will contribute to their profession and to society.

Based on the precepts of the Program Education Objectives resulting in tenets, the BS Engineering Program shall produce graduates who:

Have the theoretical and practical ability to research, analyze, design and evaluate engineering systems for modern practice and/or graduate and professional programs;

Can communicate effectively in oral, written and electronic media and have the necessary teamwork and leadership skills to work and participate effectively in a team environment; and

Are committed to life-long learning and continuous improvement and who can contribute to the economic, technical, social and educational development of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the country and the world.

Mission Statement 

The Mission of the BS Engineering Program is to prepare students for careers as practicing engineers in the interdisciplinary areas of electromechanical, energy and power, electro-optical and computer hardware and software or the fundamentals of engineering. Students are prepared to work in teams, communicate effectively and contribute to the profession or their pursuit of graduate education in the interdisciplinary areas. The BS Engineering Program integrates design across the curriculum that utilizes technical communications and professional development. It culminates with a capstone design experience which is a hallmark of interdisciplinary engineering education. Interdisciplinary engineering education emphasizes life-long learning skills needed to succeed in both the workplace and society.
