

{"id":524,"date":"2013-09-16T17:37:42","date_gmt":"2013-09-16T21:37:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/bjsewall\/?p=524"},"modified":"2013-09-16T17:37:42","modified_gmt":"2013-09-16T21:37:42","slug":"dr-sewall-presents-at-national-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.temple.edu\/bjsewall\/2013\/09\/16\/dr-sewall-presents-at-national-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr. Sewall presents at national conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr. Sewall has presented at a national conference\u00a0on the emerging bat disease known as white-nose syndrome.\u00a0 The National White-Nose Syndrome Workshop, which was convened by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, brought together researchers and managers from across North America and beyond to share the latest findings on this emerging threat to native bat species and to the services they provide to ecosystems and people.\u00a0 The conference featured research presentations and meetings among working groups to guide and help implement the White-Nose Syndrome National Plan, an integrated\u00a0plan to respond to this disease.\u00a0 Dr. Sewall&#8217;s presentation, entitled &#8220;Improved analysis of long-term monitoring data demonstrates marked regional declines of bat populations in the eastern United States&#8221;\u00a0demonstrated that\u00a0four hibernating bat species have undergone substantial regional-scale\u00a0declines over the last 13 years.\u00a0 The presentation was co-authored by collaborators Thomas Ingersoll of the National Institute for Mathematical and Biological Synthesis and Sybill Amelon of the U.S. Forest Service.\u00a0 Drs.
