Andrea Gudiel has won the Grand Prize in campus-wide competition for the 2013 Library Prize\u00a0for Undergraduate Research on Sustainability and the Environment.\u00a0 This is an award honoring the best undergraduate research in sustainability-related fields from across the university.\u00a0 Andrea received her award after giving a moving acceptance speech to a packed room at an awards ceremony and reception held on Thursday, May 2nd\u00a0in the\u00a0Paley Library Lecture Hall.\u00a0 The\u00a0awards ceremony\u00a0was\u00a0attended by the university’s Vice Provost,\u00a0Dean of Libraries, several Associate Deans and Department Chairs, numerous faculty, and many students.\u00a0 \u00a0The ceremony was also simulcast over the web and\u00a0broadcast throughout Paley Library and across campus.\u00a0\u00a0In her speech, Andrea\u00a0discussed the findings of her research on factors influencing the establishment and spread of non-native species of plants in Madagascar, and their implications for managing native biodiversity and ecosystem services.\u00a0 She also discussed\u00a0more broadly her experience with research, the many challenges she faced along the way, and the rewards of overcoming obstacles and learning new research skills.\u00a0 Our congratulations go out to Andrea for this significant academic achievement!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
