Our “Philadelphias”
It is fitting that Temple University is located in “the new Philadelphia” and shares a name with the “Philadelphia of the past,” Amman, Jordan. However, our two cities share more than a name. Our “Philadelphias” offer a wealth of historical and cultural sites that enhance understanding of cultural values, continuously provide support and services to our immigrant and refugee communities, and provide a unique backdrop for all who live, work and study.

Together with the Institute of International Education (iie), the Government of Brazil, Temple University’s Office of Global Engagement is pleased to host the Brazilian English teachers at Temple University this summer (BETT).

What is the Brazilian English teachers at Temple University?
This fully funded program, hosted by Temple’s Center for American Language and Culture (TCALC), aims to support the Brazilian teachers, with comprehensive six-week BETT (Brazilian English Teachers at Temple) program to strengthen the participants’ English, introduce new online and traditional teaching methodologies, familiarize teachers with technologies that can help students reach their learning goals, provide information on best practices for assessment and feedback, and most importantly, allow the teachers to “live” the teaching practices that we espouse by utilizing them as students of our program. Participants will benefit from the university’s placement in Philadelphia, the second-largest city on the East Coast and the birthplace of America. Students’ cultural experiences will be enhanced with trips in and around Philadelphia as well as to New York and Ocean City, NJ.

-
- In doing so, these scholars will gain a U.S. education and will also be exposed to U.S. culture and values resulting in strengthening U.S.-Jordan relations.
-
- With this education, knowledge, experience and exposure, scholars may then become an integral part of a stronger Jordanian workforce that will in turn create economic growth for the country and all its citizens.
