Overview:  This site provides a new digital edition of The Beggar’s Opera that will invite scholars, performers, teachers, and students from a variety of disciplines to engage in new ways with this very influential text, which invented a new genre (ballad opera), founded English musical theater, and stimulated adaptations ranging from Brecht and Weill’s The Threepenny Opera to John Latouche and Duke Ellington’s Beggar’s Holiday to Wole Soyinka’s Opera Wonyosi.
