Diversity & Inclusion

Inclusive pride flag: black and brown stripes representing people of color; pink, white, and blue stripes are a nod to the Trans Pride banner.

The Neuroendocrinology and Behavior lab is committed to increasing initiatives for expanding diversity and for creating a workspace where all lab members feel included and valued, regardless of their age, race, color, ethnicity, national origin, citizenship status, socioeconomic status, religion, sex, gender identity or expression of that identity, sexual orientation, able-bodiedness or mental health status. We feel that having laboratory members with varied backgrounds and sets of experiences is an asset that allows for the generation of new ideas and approaches to scientific problems. We value taking part in discussions to increase self-awareness and foster respect both among lab members and within our field/communities. In line with these beliefs, we pledge to:

  • Continue our “Bias in Academia” lab meetings
  • Continue our summer book club focused on learning about diverse perspectives/experiences in STEM
  • Encourage involvement in outreach programs directed at our Philly community, such as Brain Awareness Week, to encourage and excite younger students about neuroscience
  • Participate in diversity and inclusion events at the university and at scientific conferences
  • Provide an emailed list of resources related to diversity and inclusion on campus to all new lab members upon joining the lab
