This is an assignment I completed for my Digital Animation Compositing and Modeling course. I created a character design in Illustrator, which was used to create a walk cycle in After Effects. Then, I used color grading and rotoscoping to make my character fit in with the (ROYALTY FREE) natural environment. Enjoy!
This is an assignment I completed for my 2D Animation course, where I made a flipbook with 48 unique frames. Enjoy!

Above is a digital phenakistoscope I completed for an assignment in my 2D Animation course. (Fun fact: This assignment was due on my 21st birthday!) I made this using Adobe Illustrator. Enjoy!
Above is my final project for my Intro to Animation course this semester. For this project, I experimented “doing more with less”, or using as few frames as possible to tell a story.
In this case, the story is an introduction to a short film, where the protagonist struggles to finish their essay. Enjoy!
(Fun fact: I created all the sound effects for this project!)
Personal statement from Ava:
Animation is a medium that I have been passionate about since adolescence. I got serious about fine art in middle school, and when my friends recommended me animated TV shows to watch, I jumped on the opportunity.
Many of the shows I watched were dramatic. They focussed on devastating wars, love, and acceptance, which deeply resonated with me. Learning to lead with love amidst internal and external conflicts was a lesson that defined my adolescence. I’m still working on it, every day.
I also admired how animators were able to simplify their figures, and still make them so vibrant and expressive. They were able to do more with less, and I wanted to master that. I also found smear frames absolutely hilarious.
I hope someday, my stories will resonate with people in a similar way. For now, I hope you enjoyed my recent pieces. They’re only the beginning of (what could be) a lifelong journey!
