Dr. Zhang is invited to organize two special sessions on Assisted Living in two important signal processing conference. The first special session is “Signal Processing for Assisted Living Technologies” in the IEEE Sensor Array and Multichannel Signal Processing Workshop to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in July 2016, and the other special session is on “Emerging Sensing Technologies for Assisted Living” in the Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers that is held annually at the Asilomar Hotel & Conference Grounds, Pacific Grove, CA, in November 2016.
The two special sessions will feature invited papers and presentations from world-class researchers to cover recent advances of assisted living using different sensing modalities, such as radar, camera vision, smartphone, accelerometer, infrared, and inertial measurement unit (IMU), and the obtained signals are processed using machine learning, deep learning, information fusing, and time-frequency analyses. Dr. Zhang will make presentations in both special sessions.
Assisted living is one of Dr. Zhang’s recent focused research areas and has tremendous importance in providing quality healthcare for elderly. As a leading expert in this area, Dr. Zhang has made significant contributions in radar and vision sensing, time-frequency analysis, motion classification, and fall detection. He has published numerous journal articles and conference papers in this area, including “Radar signal processing for elderly fall detection: The future for in-home monitoring” that was recently published in the IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, special issue on Signal Processing for Assisted Living, in March 2016.
