The Most Important Features of a Video Conferencing Camera

With the advancement of technology, and a better understanding of how to use these devices, video conferencing cameras can be found in just about every market imaginable today. It used to be that you would need to have a lot of money in order to set up a video conference. But now, even an ordinary home computer with a high-speed internet connection can do so. These days the best video conferencing is usually provided by dedicated hardware video teleconferencing systems. While there are also portable systems that allow you to set up a conference on the fly and have someone there who can give directions and make announcements, most people find that it is more convenient to go with a dedicated device.

There are actually two primary resolutions in most video conferencing cameras: CIF (352×288), or 4SIF (664×480); and HD (High definition-1280×720), or 1920×1080. However, many video conferencing software packages will also have other resolutions. If your video conference service provider offers only CIF resolutions, you will find that some software packages will offer you a choice between Full HD. A lot of people prefer the full HD because it is the most affordable resolution, though it also tends to be grainy and have very poor quality. On the other hand, if your service provider does not offer HD resolutions, then going with one of their more expensive models may give you a good idea of what kind of results you can expect from your video conference. There is no reason to spend money if you don’t have to.

Video conferencing camera have also been made available that come with video capabilities. These cameras generally have a video input jack that plugs into your computer’s USB port; a video output jack that plugs into a standard video monitor, camcorder or DVD player; an interface card that allows you to plug into a wireless router or any type of network with a USB wireless adapter; a video microphone and speaker that allows you to talk to people in real time via the web; and of course, a video recorder for making sure you have all of your video conference material saved safely and clearly for future reference. The advantage to using this type of camera is the ease with which you can share your audio and video with others or use them for your own purposes.

Video conferencing software packages also allow you to share the video that is being recorded during your conference with others. You can do this either using a networked computer, or through a software program that you will download from the Internet. A good network-connected video recording program is a necessity for anyone who wants to take advantage of all of the video features of their cameras. You can save the recorded material in a folder on your hard drive and use your software program to watch this on your computer; or you can save it in a number of different formats for uploading on the Internet.

Most video conferencing cameras allow you to adjust the quality of the video as you wish. Some will record in full HD if the camera is powerful enough to capture the quality. You can also record in Standard Definition-1280×720, but you may find that the lower resolutions are better for those who are planning on having several people in attendance. Other cameras also allow you to adjust the color depth and image resolution, though it is not recommended.

There is also the option of using your own DVD/VCD/DVD recorder so that people can view the video on their home computer; or you can choose to use a portable DVD/VCD player or video recorder so that they can watch it on their mobile phone, game consoles, portable media player or even their iPad. If your goal is to take this video recording technology to the next level and stream it to the Web, then you should look for a video recording program that offers streaming video and allows you to adjust the quality and size of the video for each person who will be participating in the video conference.
