The circular garden beds around the flag pole in front of Bright Hall are part of a research project in which the Ambler Arboretum partners with Mt. Cuba Center to trial many species of a particular native plant genus. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trial continues for three years in which we collect data on herbivory for the Mt. Cuba native plant trials<\/a>. We are specifically looking at deer herbivory but record data on any herbivory. We submit this data to Mt. Cuba where they analyze and synthesize the results, using this information to make recommendations to homeowners and growers alike, regarding which native plant species are best for home garden situations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because this is a trial there may be gaps in the plantings where certain plants have failed or other characteristics not in line with our typical horticulture displays. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently installed is a Pycnanthemum sp<\/em>. (Mountain Mint) trial. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have also participated in a Solidago sp<\/em>. (Goldenrod) trial. You can find the results of this trial here: https:\/\/mtcubacenter.org\/trials\/solidago\/<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

*What\u2019s Going on Here? is a series of QR coded signage placed around the garden at various locations where there is temporary activity that may pique visitors’ curiosity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
