At the beginning of the semester, I felt intimidated by the scale of the final project. But now? I feel prepared. Or at least more prepared than I did before. This course has helped me break the project into smaller, intentional parts, which has made the process feel more manageable and meaningful.

One of the milestones I’m most proud of is my blog work. Research used to feel distant to me — like something I had to do rather than something I could build upon. But now, I see it as a foundation that supports my thoughts for my final paper. I’m proud of how I’ve been able to weave in personal narrative and cultural context while keeping academic rigor in a way that feels true to me. It’s truly made me excited to tackle the paper, when initially I only looked forward to the media project.

Now that I feel my research is in a good spot, especially with the remaining blog posts coming, I want to begin drafting out what my documentary will be. I’m excited to begin creating a mood board and thinking of how I want viewers to feel. While it’s beneficial and available to everyone, this project is my love letter to Black women. I want to represent us well and create something that we can be proud of. With the research I’ve already collected, I’m looking forward to begin scripting the project and coming up with interview questions. With the progress I’ve made so far, I can honestly say I feel like Beyoncé: Black, successful, and a real GIRL BOSS.

I shared some of my initial media with the class. It was an idea I plan to use as a dedicated open to my documentary, and I got amazing feedback on it. I’m going to continue working on the script, so it may change a little — but I was happy that people liked the idea.

Source:

Forbes.
