Explore Other Fascinating Air Quality Projects

Our project is situated within a larger group of air quality research studies and community science projects. Below is a list of other projects with findings relevant to air pollution from industrial sources, vehicle emissions, and air monitoring.

Air Monitoring in Southwest Philadelphia

The Clean Air Council is installing PurpleAir sensors at community members’ homes along I-95 to monitor the pollution that comes from the personal vehicles, trucks, and semis that drive along the busy corridor every day. Read the WHYY article about their project here.

Done by the Clean Air Task Force, Death by Diesel explores the health outcomes of diesel fuel exhaust, PM2.5 exhaust known as diesel particulate matter (DPM). Explore their map of the US here.

A screenshot of the Death by Diesel website. A map of the US is on the page, and shows that major cities, including Philadelphia, are the most impacted by diesel exhaust.

Life Expectancy by Census Tract

This interactive site created by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation explores how socioeconomic status effects how long you may live. Type your address into the search bar to view the life expectancy of your neighborhood, and the factors that influence it.

A graphic showing the many factors that affect life expectancy. These are: economic status, education, housing, employment, nutritious food, healthcare, crime, and pollution.
