Brady, G. Fowler, L. Lane, J. LeBreton, G. Sneff, S. Thompson, T. Whitehead, A. Harlow recording.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<ol>\n<li>Minutes approved as amended.<\/li>\n<li>J. LeBreton offered commendations to AAL for developing this particular program\u00a0and thanks for work done by librarians and ADC. \u00a0No announcement has been made\u00a0yet of the appointment of an interim University Librarian, but library business continues\u00a0in a competent and professional manner. \u00a0Librarians are encouraged to read the ADC\u00a0and RIS minutes. \u00a0The library is moving forward with more strategic planning that will be\u00a0done this spring, along with all of the administrative groups on campus.<\/li>\n<li>Discussion: \u00a0AAL information on the web. \u00a0Public or private?<br \/>\nA concern was raised that even if AAL information is made public, that it should also be\u00a0made evident and easy to find. \u00a0The question was raised whether or not certain areas\u00a0could be made public and others remain secured. \u00a0For example, could the minutes be\u00a0private, but procedures and policies public. \u00a0 \u00a0J. LeBreton has been asked about our\u00a0procedures for promotion, rank, and tenure. \u00a0All agreed that procedures and policies of\u00a0the website can be made public. \u00a0The discussion will be continued in the next meeting\u00a0because there is not a forum here today.<\/li>\n<li>Other Business \u2013 G. Sneff \u2013 The General Education proposal in the Faculty Senate\u00a0will be voted upon this month. \u00a0All faculty who want to amend the proposal must submit\u00a0their proposals in writing. \u00a0A committee will be appointed to advise administration in\u00a0searches for administrative positions. \u00a0The projected implementation date is 2005 or\u00a02006.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>FORUM \u2013 Stanton Davis, Theater Department\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">\u201cComing Through Loud and Clear\u201d<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\">Public Speaking Techniques for Academic Librarians<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align: center\"><\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div>Mr. Davis discussed how articulation, relaxation, and projection are essential in oral\u00a0communication. \u00a0 The more dynamic a speaker is, the more clearly the message is\u00a0communicated. \u00a0 However, this does not necessarily mean that a speaker needs to be\u00a0loud. \u00a0Articulation, variety in pitch, good use of inflection, and gesture make a speech\u00a0memorable and exciting. \u00a0Mr. Stanton discussed the stress of speaking in a public\u00a0situation, and ways to overcome this stress. \u00a0 The group was given tongue tickler exercises. \u00a0 The physical mechanism of the jaws,\u00a0tongue, lips, soft palate, and throat were described, as well as how to develop the\u00a0muscles involved. \u00a0Breathing was discussed: the proper way to breathe was described,\u00a0and exercises for breathing were given. \u00a0Exercises for releasing tension were also\u00a0described and then tried by the whole group. \u00a0Techniques for adding variety and interest\u00a0to public speaking were discussed and demonstrated, including variations in pitch,\u00a0rhythm, and gesture.<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>S.
