Alford)<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 120px\">Larry acknowledged staff in the Libraries\u2019 improvements over the past six years and noted\u00a0 that Governor Corbett gave his budget address earlier in the day, proposing a roughly 50% cut \u2013 $625 million \u2013 to state and state-related universities.\u00a0 This will likely mean significant cuts\u00a0 to Temple\u2019s operating budget prior to tuition and other revenue increases.\u00a0 Larry reported that the Libraries is still in a good position to shoulder the cuts, pointing out that there are 32 open\u00a0 positions within the Libraries, including Law and Health Sciences, and that there are reserve\u00a0 funds which can be carried forward to maintain the materials budget.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 120px\">Kristina asked about the recommendations from the Huron Group, who was hired to identify opportunities for budget cuts which would not be across the board, and whether any of their\u00a0 suggestions were made available.\u00a0Jonathan said that library data was requested and given to them, but that there has been no follow-up as of yet.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 120px\">Gretchen asked how the budget will affect the proposed new building.\u00a0 Larry noted that since\u00a0 monies\u00a0 come\u00a0 from\u00a0 two\u00a0 different\u00a0 sources,\u00a0 there\u00a0 should\u00a0 be\u00a0 no\u00a0 direct\u00a0 impact; however, if the Governor decides to place a cap on capital spending, building projects may be affected.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Making the most of your ACRL Conference (K. DeVoe)<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 120px\">Kristina\u00a0 distributed\u00a0 a\u00a0 handout\u00a0 with\u00a0 session\u00a0 suggestions\u00a0 for\u00a0 the\u00a0 upcoming\u00a0 ACRL conference and opened discussion with questions on how others plan their conference experience.\u00a0 Sandi recommended attending sessions outside of one\u2019s immediate subject expertise for new perspectives.<\/li>\n<li style=\"margin-left: 120px\">Jonathan pointed out that presentations given by LIS doctoral\u00a0\u00a0 students\u00a0\u00a0 could\u00a0\u00a0 be\u00a0\u00a0 interesting\u00a0\u00a0 to\u00a0\u00a0 attend\u00a0\u00a0 as\u00a0\u00a0 well.\u00a0\u00a0 Gretchen\u00a0\u00a0 suggested participating in dine-arounds and meet-up activities scheduled to take place around Philadelphia.
