A statement on the passing of E. Steven Collins
The School of Media and Communication and the entire Temple University community is saddened to learn of the loss of Philadelphia radio legend E. Steven Collins.
E. Steven, a Temple student during the 1970s, was selected this year to receive the School of Media and Communication’s top honor, the Lew Klein Alumni in the Media Award, on Oct. 17. The school plans to celebrate the life and work of E. Steven at the annual ceremony.
For the past decade, E. Steven served as the director of urban marketing and external relations at Radio One and was the host of the weekly show, “Philly Speaks,” on Old School 100.3. Previously, he worked at WDAS for almost 30 years. He served on the boards of several local non-profit organizations.
“This is a tragic loss for Temple and for Philadelphia,” said Lew Klein, an adjunct professor at Temple for more than six decades. “E. Steven Collins was a prime example of the positive influence a media professional can have on his community. We send our condolences to his family, colleagues, listeners, mentees and everyone else whose life he touched. He will be greatly missed.”
